Celestial Bodies | Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett
Celestial Bodies is a new kinetic light installation designed for Equinox Vigil by Calgary-based artists Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett. Drawing connections between the stars above and the imprint we leave behind after death, viewers are invited to move through a series of cosmic curtains. Figurative projections illuminate the veils, creating static images animated by the breeze. Try to peer beyond the veil and the figures disappear into the dark – they can only be seen while the threshold remains. A shimmering metaphor for ‘the great beyond,’ Celestial Bodies explores the space just outside our grasp: from dust to stardust.
This installation was created using public domain images collected by NASA.
Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett are Calgary-based artists and collaborators. Their practice illuminates intersections between light + dark, known + unknown, collective + intimate, often resulting in participatory public sculptures. Their artwork for Equinox Vigil is the second in a series of veil-based installations, following Beyond the Veil designed for Japan Alps Art Festival.
