Volunteer

This is a very special event for many Calgarians and the production team will be thrilled to have you be part of this unique cultural experience.  Whether you’re already an Equinox Vigil volunteer or have yet to experience the event, we are happy to welcome you on-board.

Please read the volunteer roles available this year in the bar to the right.  You will be able to sign up for more than one shift if times don’t conflict – please select the position(s) that interest you.

The form submitted will be reviewed by our Volunteer Coordinator and you will receive an e-mail confirming your volunteer role(s). Volunteers make Equinox Vigil possible and every single task is incredibly important!

Please note that by signing up you agree to help create and follow the spirit of the event as outlined in the Volunteer Agreement.

Position Descriptions

Poster Distribution
Can you help us spread the word about Equinox Vigil? We’ll deliver event posters to you and you can help us by posting them around your neighbourhood.
Schedule: August – September / No minimum time commitment.

Advanced set and lighting design
Please note that this volunteer position requires experience in theatrical lighting design.
Schedule: August – September / Please get in touch with us

Site Set-up
Setting up tents, tables and chairs; installing lights, site decorations and signage; assisting with artwork and video equipment installation.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 10 am to 2 pm

Flower Brigade
Work with a team to create fresh flower garlands and decorations. This position requires flower arrangement or set decoration experience.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 9 am to 1 pm

Tea Garden Service
Host the popular Tea Tent. Prepare and serve tea, clear tables, clean teacups, and supervise food trays. Volunteers are assigned 2.5-hour shifts, an opening shift or a closing shift.
Schedule: September 23rd/ Opening shift 5:15-7:45pm or Closing Shift 7:45-10:15pm

Greeters
Greet arriving and departing guests and distribute hankies prior to the opening ceremony.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 5:30 pm to 7:30pm

Information Table
Get familiar with the programming and help guests with information about the event.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 5:30pm to 10pm (with 30-minute break)

Wayfinders
Stationed at the bottom entrance from 28 Ave to direct people up the hill to the ‘new’ site.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 5:30pm to 10pm (with 30-minute break)

Visitor Information / Floater
Help our guests with general information throughout the site and cover for fellow volunteers where needed.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 5:30pm to 9:30pm (with 30-minute break)

Lantern Procession
Light the way and invite people to join the choir-led procession(s). Help collect lanterns at the end of each procession. Lantern Processions at 8 pm and 9pm
Schedule: September 23rd/ 7:45pm to 10pm

Parking Control
Direct traffic and help guest with directions to the assigned parking lot. We’ll provide the reflective vest.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 5:30pm to 7:45pm and 9pm to 9:45pm

Memorial Craft Making Tent
Invite guests to participate in a memorial card making activity, help keep craft supplies organized and assist the tent supervisors with set-up and clean-up.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 6pm to 10pm (30 minute break)

Site Clean Up
Take down tents, tables, chairs, art installation and decorations from around the site. We’ll have headlights available.
Schedule: September 23rd/ 9:30pm to 11:30pm

Site Tear Down
Taking down lights and artwork installations; final site cleanup and loading chairs and tables on a truck.
Schedule: September 24th/ TBC (2.5 hours in the afternoon)
