Skelly – Dead and Alive | Carla Pelky
115″ x 43″ Organic matter (leaves, twigs, seeds ‘n weeds) on found / reclaimed window frame / glass
My primary medium and art form was born out of a sequence of artistic and personal experiences. I enjoy the challenge of creating imagery with leaves, twigs, seeds ‘n weeds, and once complete, working digitally with the key art pieces to create objects or explore other media as forms creative expression.
“Life has no opposite. The opposite of death is birth. Life is eternal.” ― Eckhart Tolle
Carla Pelkey is an artist and graphic designer in Calgary, Alberta whose love of nature led to the creation of a novel art form. Having worked with the transformational mandala using traditional art materials, Carla was instead inspired to use autumn leaves, twigs, seeds n’ weeds she collected, most found locally This led to images of figures, animals and objects, often continuing to integrate spiritual meaning, symbology and humour. Carla’s digital experience and entrepreneurial spirit contribute to her work that values resourcefulness, the unexpected, or what is usually considered dead, decaying or archaic matter. Carla is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art with a major in Visual Communications.
