The Union Choir
In her adopted hometown of Calgary, Kenna Burima has earned a reputation as someone who can turn ideas into big projects and inspire people to come together, but at her core, Burima wears one label most proudly: musician. As a connecter, a teacher and an activist, Kenna called some of her closet friends together and took a chance on a few newbies to form the ever-diverse, multifaceted, shape-shifting Union Choir. Kenna’s strong sense of community has always leant to a group experience, with friends always welcome to sing backing vocals and contribute their particular talents, so a choir was a natural fit.
The Union Choir, named after the Union Cemetery which hosts the yearly Equinox Vigil, is more than a collection of like-minded individuals. The Union Choir, at its core, is a group of musical friends, but at its heart is a family – the type of family that you choose. Member numbers vary, with friends stepping in and out to accommodate busy, happy lives, but the soul remains.’
